1.
How long has the motorcoach company been in business?
In the motorcoach industry only companies that meet high standards
and customer satisfaction will remain in business. Founded
in 1982, Sierra is a family owned company with a long-term
commitment to both its individual business and the community.
2.
What is the carrier’s safety record?
Motorcoach travel is one of the safest forms of transportation
today. Sierra has an excellent rating due to well maintained
equipment, established safety procedures, strict driver standards
and an on-going safety program.
The
US Department of Transportation issues safety ratings on a
company’s record. To easily find a motorcoach carrier’s
safety rating go to www.safersys.org and search by company
name, USDOT number or MC number. Sierra’s USDOT number
is 229351 and our MC number is 166321.
3.
Ask the carrier to supply a Certificate of Insurance.
Reputable motorcoach companies will willingly provide you
with a certificate of insurance. The Federal DOT required
5 million dollars combined single-limit liability. Sierra
carries $10 million of liability coverage.
4.
Is the carrier a full service company?
Many motorcoach companies specialize in only one type of service
while others offer a variety of services. Sierra offers local
and extended charter service, customized tour packages, airport
transfers, shuttle service, convention transportation, step-on
guides and meet & greet service.
5.
Ask for references.
Never charter from a company not willing to provide references.
Make sure the references are up to date and that they are
of groups similar to yours.
6.
How many hours can a driver work?
DOT regulations state that a driver may not exceed 15 hours
of work with no more than 10 of these hours being behind the
wheel. After reaching the 15 hour service limit, the driver
must be off duty for 8 continuous hours. Depending on the
needs of the group, Sierra provides a relief driver or arranges
for the driver to go to a hotel for at least 8 hours of rest.
7.
How far in advance should I reserve a bus?
It is always best to book your charter service needs as soon
as you have chosen a date. Quality motorcoaches in the Houston
area are in high demand during March-June and September-November.
Don’t disappoint your group by waiting too late to get
the quality equipment that they deserve.
8.
Inspect the carrier’s motorcoach equipment.
It is a good idea to personally inspect the equipment you
are considering chartering for your group. A few minutes spent
comparing different carriers’ equipment will help you
determine that you are receiving the best value for your dollar.
Call Sierra to schedule a time to inspect our motorcoaches.
9.
How do I get a quote?
Use our on-line request
form to receive a quote. Include any special needs that your
group has. Make sure that all motorcoach companies that you
contact are given the same information so that you will be
comparing “apples to apples” when you review the
quotes.
10.
Be a smart shopper!
Cost is important when choosing your motorcoach company but
it is value that should be the deciding factor when making
your final decision.
